More on Progressive
Not only does Progressive disgust me, but insurance folks in general are annoying me. Why? Because no one has come out to state the obvious: this was a disaster and is unacceptable.
After posting about this last month, I wrote to the CPCU Society and the AICPCU, groups that claim they represent the best and the brightest in the insurance industry. Heck, I am a CPCU and a member of the CPCU Society who has written for them many times. CPCUs are so proud of the designation, we have a separate code of ethics.
Apparently, the code of ethics does not include standing up and calling out a company that gives you financial backing. My CPCU Society renewal is staying in my pocket. And I am still encouraging you to drop Progressive for these tactics.
Tom -
I don't think I go too far. Every insurance professional should be outraged by this and calling for a full investigation of Progressive. As a professional, a CPCU should strive to better the profession. And that means that you expect everyone to be ethical. The conduct by Progressive is so far over the line that everyone should condemn it, especially a group that strives to increase the standards in the industry.
Oh, and I am not so sure it is an isolated incident.

I don't believe the CPCU Society gets any backing from Progressive...There are very few CPCU's in the company (especially at the sr. officer level)...No, the Code of Ethics doesn't require them to "call out" a company. That said, this incident appears to have been due to the actions of an outside vendor. Progressive will pay a price for the violation of privacy. But this was simply an isolated incident and should be treated as such.
I worked at Progressive for 8 1/2 years and voted with my feet. I don't care for them, but you go too far in your condemnation.
