Wear your seatbelt, even if elected officials do not

Okay, I am a big fan of seatbelts. They save lives. Want proof?

I handled a claim about 8 years ago. 5 kids in a car driving down a road. The driver was speeding. He hit a pothole. Lost control. Tried to correct. Over-corrected. Flipped the car. 4 people survive, the worst having a broken leg. 1 person died. Want to know who died? The driver's best friend - a girl who was not wearing her seatbelt. The only one in the car not wearing a seatbelt.

But, apparently, neither Mitt Romney nor Matt Lauer have learned the lesson from Gov. Jon Corzine of New Jersey. Lauer was interviewing Romney in the back of a vehicle and neither was wearing his seatbelt. They have both since apologized.

Apologies are great. A donation to an organization that promotes seatbelt awareness is even better. Not wearing a seatbelt will get you killed. These two guys have an obligation to set an example.

Please, make sure you wear your seatbelt.
