Drinking, Driving and the holidays

I saw this on the news and had to pass it on: The CHP arrested fewer people this year for DUI than last year. I just wanted to thank all of you who chose not to drink and drive. A few reasons not to:

  1. You are probably going to kill or injure someone;
  2. You will get caught at some point in time;
  3. You are probably going to kill or injure someone;
  4. Ever try to get insurance with a DUI - it is not easy or cheap;
  5. You are probably going to kill or injure someone;
  6. If 1, 3 or 5 happen, it will cost you. If you have insurance, your insurance company will pay more money if someone is injured than if you were sober. If you do not have insurance, you will pay more money. When I handle personal injury claims, if someone is injured by a drunk driver, the case is worth more money.
  7. See 1, 3 and 5.

I hope you are all safe over the next week.

FAQ: When is it an occurrence?

Q: When does an occurrence occur under a completed operations coverage?

A: It occurs when the loss occurs. Until a loss occurs, a mistake or an error, is nothing more than that. However, once an injury occurs, than it becomes an occurrence. Of course, if you have a non-standard policy or you are insured under a manuscript policy (i.e., custom written), you need to read your policy to make sure that this applies to you.

A bit off topic

Something non-insurance related for a minute primarily because I am in the middle of a move but wanted to pass this on.

If you need logo-imprinted items, I highly recommend LogoWorld. Call and ask for Deena. Her contact information:

Crackdown on uninsured motorists

Make sure your insurance is paid up! The California DMV is beginning to crackdown on uninsured motorists. The insurance companies are reporting to DMV is you cancel insurance. Once your policy is cancelled, DMV will send you a notice.

Want to avoid this mess? Keep your insurance current and pay your premiums. It will save you a lot of hassle, headache, and inconvenience!

Checking an attorney's experience

We had a comment about how you can check your attorney's experience. The obvious way to check is to ask your attorney. What else can you do?

In some counties, for instance Sacramento, you can search online. If you type your attorneys name in the "civil search," you will get a list of cases that he/she is involved in. That gives you some information.

You can also check Lexis, if you have a subscription. If you do not, a Google search works often. You would be surprised at what you find with a google search of your attorney. Other than that, you may want to call other attorneys in the area and ask!
