Allstate Settles Class Action Lawsuit

It may seem like I am Allstate bashing lately, and to a certain extent I am, but only because they manage to make the news so often. (And when they make it, it is usually a doozy!)

The latest: Allstate settled a class action lawsuit that alleged that they used credit scores to increase premiums charged to minorities. Allstate will change its practices (or at least, it claims it will).

Here is the important point: Allstate will pay $150 to minority insureds who OPT IN to the lawsuit. If you are an Allstate insured, you should opt in to the ASAP.

As for the rest of you, it is one more reason to watch the following: your credit score (which I don't think should be used to set your insurance premium) and your insurance company. Despite the fact that they shouldn't do these things, they do.
