A Million Little Lawsuits?

I admit to not having read "A Million Little Pieces." Heck, until the ill-fated call by Oprah Winfrey to Larry King, I had never even heard of the book or the author. Now, I cannot stop hearing about it. And I know you are asking yourself, how is this related to the blog?

Good question. The first of what I expect to be a mini-wave of lawsuits has been filed. All I can say is UGH! Someone spent $20 or so on a book. It turns out the book, despite its claim of being nonfiction, is fiction. Okay, fine. Here is a check for $20. What else is the plaintiff out?

(Does anyone recall Seinfeld? Peterman was to write a book, but his life was boring. So, he bought Kramer's stories for his book. Kramer then started "The Real J. Peterman Tour." Hilarious!)

Anyway, this is the type of case that gives legs to the tort reformers. I am sorry that the woman spent $20. If she wants the cost of the book back, I will pass the plate for her. But, when attorneys file lawsuits like this, it gets the tort reformers all worked up and the public gets ticked. This lawsuit should go the way of the ill-fated Janet Jackson lawsuit - into the round cylinder.

I agree with you! I haven't read this book or even heard of it until the hoopla surrounding it was publicized. The publisher will give refunds to those who bought the book directly from them. That raised an interesting question -- who ever buys a book directly from the publisher?
