More Workers Compenation Reform?

After the "sweeping changes" that our governor imposed for workers comp reform, everything is good, right? Well, probably not.

I get a lot of calls from potential clients with injuries. The problem is that, under the new system, its financially not feasible to take a lot of these cases. I refer them on to other people who may be taking the cases, but its still not the best system. And a lot of people go without legal representation at all.

Now, the California Medical Association, a group I normally do not agree with, comes out with a new survey indicating that doctors may reduce or stop treating injured workers. The reason? They are not getting paid timely. This quote about sums up workers comp in California:

"CMA officials cited many physician complaints about insurance carriers missing legal deadlines for decisions on medical tests and treatment, payments routinely delayed and rulings made by nonmedical specialists."

When I was an adjuster at a company that handled workers comp claims, we had the same problems. The system needs to be changed, and soon, and this time with a goal of helping injured workers.
